Comments: The Egungun is a society of Yoruba people (see H. Drewel's article for their origin). Multi-layered, full-body masquerade costume. Multiple cloth lappets (+18) are attached around the body at shoulder level. Next full-body layer made up of multiple red and white prints, sewn together to form a 'dress,' open at bottom and attached at shoulder area. Last full-body layer predominently of indigo strip-woven cloth, is sack-like with attached leggings (including feet), extending to top of head. Knotted mesh gloves attached to last layer. Knotted mesh panel coveres front of head.
