Comments: Very fine, highly detailed needle lace mat featuring an eagle grasping six arrows in one claw and a laurel branch in the other, with a field of thirteen stars above. At center there is a shield with a solid field above and a striped field in the lower area. The feathers and leaves are worked in closed and open buttonhole stitch, and outlined in cordonnet. Negative spaces are filled with a large hexagonal mesh ground in buttonhole stitch and picotage.
