Comments: The ikat pattern used here looks very similar to ikat pattern of 'atlas' satins called 'lisan al-asfur' or 'birds tongues' from Syria (Weir 38). Length of shiny red satin weave apparel yardage, with evenly spaced narrow black stripes across width and yellow warp ikat patterning. Tall and narrow ikat zigzags go in periodic bands across width, and are spaced out so that peaks fit between stripes. Additional yellow dashes go down the center of each black stripe. Weft is white cotton, though it is almost completely invisible on top side.
